First habitable Earth like planet outside Solar System discovered
Posted by: Soylent Cola in Science“Munich, April 24: An international team of astronomers from Switzerland, France and Portugal have discovered the most Earth-like planet outside our Solar System to date.
The planet has a radius only 50 percent larger than Earth and is very likely to contain liquid water on its surface.”
Full article here.
It seem that every day were dramatically closer to finding actual life outside of our solar system. I cant imagine the day when we come across intelligent life elsewhere. How do you think the masses would react to such a thing?

With our leaders?
Life on other planets would mean war.

The masses would most likely react by violence. Sadly it seems the majority of humanity has the ignorant assumption that everything different must be destroyed.

I don’t think that finding a planet that resembles Earth necessitates us finding life; even if it did we couldn’t assume it’d be sentient life.
Even if it WERE sentient life, how would we know? We’ve been investigating the nature of sentience for millenia, and STILL don’t know what it is and (other than humans) haven’t attributed it to any other animal.

Because the one you have up right now doesn’t work.
Anyway, this planet is 20.5 lightyears away from us. That’s a mere stone throw away, in the galactic scheme of things… Too bad that doesn’t mean jack shit for us. With our current technology, it would take around 570,000 years to reach this planet, which of course renders the journey to this planet impossible.
