Seeing as how people, and Americans in general, have an obsession with having homes that are 2,000-3,000 and beyond in square footage it was really nice for me to see this article. It’s all about a house that only has 96 square foot. However when you look inside at actually looks fairly comfortable.
This dream house is the love child of artist-builder Jay Shafer, who lovingly hand-crafted it. The stainless-steel kitchen, gleaming next to the natural wood interior, is outfitted with customized storage and built-ins. From his bed, Shafer can gaze into the Northern California sky through a cathedral window. In his immaculate office space, a laptop sits alongside rows of architectural books and magazines — many featuring his house on the cover. And from the old-fashioned front porch, he can look out on a breathtaking setting: an apple orchard in full bloom.But in an era when bigger is taken as a synonym for better, calling Shafer’s home a dream house might strike some as an oxymoron. Why? The entire house, including sleeping loft, measures only 96 square feet — smaller than many people’s bathrooms. But Jay Shafer’s dream isn’t of a lifestyle writ large but of one carefully created and then writ tiny.
I really enjoyed this article. We as a people no longer believe in simplicity it seems. Huge homes, huge cars and infinite junk we don’t need seem to be our only interests and obsessions. I think most of us could learn a thing or two from this guy. Having more doesn’t mean being more or doing more with your life, it’s best not to get caught up in the material things.
And on top of that it takes up so much less space allowing for more plants and open soace.

Id call that a really nice shack, not a house. For one person, I can see it working and being relatively comfortable, if you really have no possessions. But you would never be able to have guests over.

I think what I like, at least as far as the idea behind this house goes, is that the size of it would encourage you to live your life instead of mulling around your house all the time

Says me, and 99% of people would agree with me.

Correction: I spend a majority of my time in a bedroom that’s nearly four (4) times the size.
I’m a big man; I need my space. But that’s besides the point. Even if my bedroom is the exact size of that house, 96 square feet, that’s just it: it’s only my bedroom. But that guy crammed everything a household needs into 96 square feet, like a kitchen, a bathroom, ect. which reminds me, where’s the bathroom in that place? I don’t see a bathroom in the pictures. He probably just goes outside like the fucking animal he is. Anyway, that tiny little place might be a decent-sized house for a midget, but it’s simply to small for everyone else. I’d imagine that you would get cabin fever really quick in that place.
